Making your resume lengthy & clumsy is one of the best ways to lose a job before being interviewed. On the contrary, an outstanding CV presents your skills, experience, & achievements in a well-presentable manner.

Employers regularly scan several resumes & CVs in a day, which is why they make splits-second decisions about whether you are the right candidate or not. And, as per the famous quote “First Impression is the Last Impression”, your resume should catch the attention of the recruiter at the first glance.

1. Make an Impression in First 10 Seconds

A well-structured, concise, and specific resume attracts the recruiter’s eye and makes a good first impression. Recruiters aren’t ready to read paragraphs, making it difficult for you to get your skills counted. 2. Add a Cover Letter with Precise Detail

As the name suggests, a cover letter sums up everything that you wish to say to a recruiter before he dives into your CV. Herein, you need to answer a few questions like what position are you willing to apply for, which qualifications and skills are the best-fit match for the job, why do you think you are the right fit for the profile, and more.
Mention a minimum of 3 qualities required as per the job description in the cover letter, explain how you achieved these, and what your level of proficiency is.

3. Adding a Specific Summary Helps

A recruiter is likely to be less interested in reading every bit of detail about your past work experiences, job roles & responsibilities, but still you want them to know those details. A short summary in the start can help here. If you have an experience of over 5 years or have been working on multiple profiles/designations with different responsibilities throughout your career, adding a to-the-point summary is a must for you.

A quick objective/summary not only helps you share your experience but also the word on why you should be chosen above the rest.

4. Do some Homework for a Role-Specific CV

As of now, you have added a cover letter and a quick summary, mentioning your skills and why you think you are a good candidate for the job. This would make a bad impression if the rest of the CV doesn’t speak the same language.

Do some research on the job you are going to apply for, and pick up & use some keywords or buzzwords that relate your skills to the requirement? This will make the recruiter think that your profile seems to be a good fit for the role and you’ll get an interview call soon.

5. Highlight Accomplishments

Achievements and recognitions are the signs of a worthy employee. Thus, it is recommended to add all or any accomplishments you have achieved during your career, which of course will make you stand out of the crowd. For instance, if you are going in for a position that requires team management, adding an achievement of being the best team player, team leader, or an award for a fun activity that requires team effort makes an impact.

6. Focus on Future Targets & Objectives

While adding achievements builds a base for a stronger CV, it merely speaks about the things you have done in the past. Thus, you should also adda purpose statement to your CV on how you plan to improve & achieve more in the future. Your future accomplishment statements should speak about how you are going to use your skills for the benefit of the company.

7. Be Straightforward, Not Cheesy

Many job aspirants think that adding cheesy statements to their CV will influence the mind of the recruiter and get them a chance to appear for the interview. However, this is not the case as recruiters are well aware of these tactics, leading this to cause a negative impact than positive. However, being straightforward and stating clear facts about your qualification, job, and gaps (if any) helps you present yourself as an honest candidate, improving your chances of getting shortlisted.

8. Mistakes are a Strict No

This might seem a lame excuse but making a spelling mistake can put you far away from being a potential candidate for the job. Ensure that you are using correct spellings for your name, qualification, and everywhere else in your CV. Not only this, you should also take care of the formatting and punctuation mistakes and correct them, if any.
